Open the Curtain
~ Reflection 4 ~
These were stars the audience could buy and all proceeds would go to the funding of the drama department.
After finding the final combination of the Ben Nye cream, dividing it up throughout the cast and crew, and assembling the makeup kits. I moved on to working on the compilation of my reach goal for my senior project. We completed our final dress rehearsal before opening on the 25th, for a teacher audience. The actors were getting comfortable doing their own makeup and came to me and my crew with any inquiries they had throughout. The teachers gave feedback as the audience on how it looked on stage, and I took those notes to apply to our opening the next day. The Twilight Zone production opened Wednesday the 26th of October 2022, for a student rush performance. The show continued through the 27th, 28th, and 29th with 2 pm and 7 pm show closing.
The production’s makeup drastically improved more and more each show. I continued to be of assistance to the cast and crew, refilling cream viles and adjusting the kits to fit each actor. A particular challenge we ran into was the makeup melting off of the actors' necks quickly into the production. I worked with my mentor to combat this by buying a liquid, matte, primer from the Ben Nye brand that I applied to the actor's neck’s before they applied the makeup.
I felt so confident and proud of how far the show, actors, and myself had come from starting this project. Before, while I had many doubts about how it would look, the end result was all worth it. The audience was blown away by how the entire show; from the makeup, acting, costumes, etc. all transported the time back to the world of black and white. Entering a word of the supernatural, of mystery, of the Twilight Zone.
